52 Weeks Discussion > Day Genesis 1-3

First I want to say this will be fun, educational, and interesting. I hope to write something everyday, but may not post daily because I do not have internet. I may post multiple days in one post.

Week 1 day 1 Genesis 1-3

“In the beginning when God created” begs the question what is God?

God is all powerful or Omnipotent (Job 37:23 – “The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress Psalm 147:5, Psalm 135:6, John 10:17-18 Romans 1:16).

God is all knowing or Omniscient (Isaiah 46:9-10 “Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please” (Psalm 139:4, Psalm 139:1-3, Psalm 147:4-5 ).

God is everywhere ( Jer 23:24Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD. Proverbs 15:3, Psalm 139:7-12

God is throughout all time (Psalm 90:2 says, “From forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God.” — Common English Bible. This God is so unlimited in power that time and space cannot bind Him or define Him. He created a universe that has no beginning and no end (Genesis 1:1).

God is all Loving ( Rom 5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.1JN 4:16, 1Jn 4:16).

Having struggled with how a single entity could know everything, be everywhere, and be throughout all time I now believe physics shows its not just possible, but is true. Even though I have studied in an attempt to discover as much as I can about God I must rely on faith.

God wants us to be happy and loved only by following his Laws and Christ’s example are we able to be happy. When we break Gods law or don’t follow Christ we hurt our spirit and until we seek forgiveness our souls and bodies cannot be truly happy.

The final paragraphs in the study guide discuss time. I do not believe God is constrained by time. For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven (Ecc 3.2 ) But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (2 Peter 3:8) Physic also indicates that time is not a constant and varies with velocity. What is constant is God.

Yeah, Mark -- it's pretty hard for us to wrap our heads around all the attributes of God. His character is so far removed from ours that it's almost impossible to comprehend. And probably the most difficult one to wrap our heads around is the issue of time. Our very lives are defined by time, but God's isn't. That makes it pretty hard for us to comprehend. But, I guess we should try (notice the sarcastic tone). After all, though we are finite and will always be considered to be finite creatures (because we had a beginning point in time), we are all also eternal in the sense that we won't have an ending. Everyone, believer and unbeliever alike - once the ball gets rolling, so to speak, the ball never stops. Death may take us, but what makes us "us" keeps on a-goin'. And that, makes it all the more important to follow God's instruction - not just so we can be "happy" in this life, but to have fellowship with our Creator, both in this life and the one to follow.

Love you, bro'.
