52 Weeks Discussion > Week 1: Day 2: Genesis 4-6

I never cease to be amazed at how every little word in the Bible is put there for our benefit somehow and if we will just do the work in seeking God through His Word and prayer, He promises to continually reveal Himself to us in so many ways. Proverbs 8:17 says, "I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me" (King James Version) and Jeremiah 29:13 says, "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart".

One of the most amazing things to me in the reading out of the 52 Weeks of Pursuit book today was understanding the significance of the genealogy in Genesis ch. 5. This was always one of those areas of the Bible where I would skim over because 1) I couldn't pronounce the words, and 2) I never understood the significance of it. I know it is important because God put it in the Bible, but I never understood why aside from understanding who begot who. However, the author of the 52 Weeks book drove home the point to me that every word in the Bible is there for a reason and it is important that I know and understand those reasons. 2 Timothy 2:16 states, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" (KJV). To me that means ALL SCRIPTURE, even the genealogies and things I had previously thought I could just skim over is all there for my benefit, so I'd better read it and find out why.

I have also been known to skip the genealogy writings. Not necessarily in these passages, because they are yet short. When I read further, and the geneologies are so much longer, I don't see the correlation between knowledge and understanding. I understand the significance of the knowledge, but failed to see the wisdom in it, until now.

Like Jamie, I never knew that the genealogy here had significance to the entire Bible. I am constantly amazed by the “hidden” bits of information through out the Bible.
