52 Weeks Discussion > Week 4, Day 4

Pastor Trotter discusses how the battle between Israel and Amalek is a picture of a christian’s battle between the flesh and the spirit and that it is a continual battle. He also points out how Israel, prior to winning the battle, received water from the rock and how water is a picture of God’s word, which is the weapon the Spirit of God uses against the flesh in our battle.

This point really interested me, because the battle between the flesh and the spirit is something that I have spent quite a bit of time studying in the Romans and D2 classes last semester and also as part of preparing the marriage study with Jamie. It was very interesting to me that this battle that christians face today was pictured all the way back in Exodus.

I thought Pastor Trotter did a very good job of showing the parallels between the two battles. The description that Pastor Trotter gives of the christian’s battle between the flesh and the spirit lines up perfectly with what I have studied from Romans 6-8 and from Galatians. After having it explained, I can also see how the battle with Amalek is a perfect picture of the spiritual battle.

I am finally here - week 4 day 4.

From the book and what George said, the thought came to my mind: What makes me think that I should not have problems? I am not so unique or special that I should be spared. Man has been in battle with the flesh since the original sin - thousands of years, millions of people before me. But, I do have help if I choose to use it, the Water (God’s Word) and the Sword (the Spirit of God). So now to apply the lesson from the children of Israel - se faith more often than complaining.
